Cafe Mezzanotte in Severna Park continues live jazz presentations with an indoor, socially distanced dinner concert Sunday, October 18 (shows at 4:30 PM and 7:00 PM). The venue is known for its Mediterranean cuisine and appealing atmosphere. Since last November, it has also been the home of a monthly world music and jazz series produced by Jazz Beyond Borders, featuring international performing and recording artists.
The October 18 show features Brazilian singer-songwriter and guitarist Cissa Paz. Paz has performed and recorded in North and South America, drawing huge crowds in this region to Bossa Bistro, Strathmore, Montpelier Arts Center, the Library of Congress, Washington Performing Arts and the D.C. Jazz Festival. She has played NY venues such as Club Bonafide and the Bronx Museum. Her 2015 self- titled album won rave reviews. Writing for World Music Report, venerated critic Raul da Gama says, "Her music – both original and re-imagined pieces by other composers is entirely treasurable."
With a captivating stage presence and soulful voice, Paz favors lovely melodies with captivating rhythms, reflecting many Brazilian styles and influenced by her Brazilian, Indigenous and African ancestry. Enjoy originals and classics by Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Chico Buarque. Gena Photidiadis on keys and Andre Coelho on percussion join her in delivering an upbeat and engaging program. Listen up for new works meant for her upcoming album.
