Does your child or teen have trouble managing details and deadlines? Are they often unprepared or clueless about what is required to complete chores, homework or plan a project?
Successful time management and task organization depend on the “executive functions (EF),” a complex, brain-based set of processes. When children or teens have delays in the development of these abilities, routine school and home tasks can lead to frustration for the adults and kids! How can we help these individuals to be more successful? This presentation by Dr. Joyce Cooper-Kahn will focus on what is what is known about executive functioning that can help to guide our efforts. We’ll start with a brief overview of executive functions and their development. Then we’ll talk about how parents and teachers can support these individuals on a daily basis, as well as how to help build the skills needed to manage the demands of life in the long run.
