William Groombridge: Forgotten American Landscape
William Groombridge: Forgotten American Landscape Artist
During this afternoon lecture program at the 1774 Hammond-Harwood House in the Historic District of Annapolis, two eminent scholars will discuss one of America’s earliest landscape artists, William Groombridge. Groombridge, who came from England in 1794, produced a scant number of romantic landscapes. One of his works has only this year been discovered at Hammond-Harwood House. Hear the fascinating story of how the mystery of one painting’s origin was revealed and learn about the early development of this well-loved American art form from scholars Catherine Rogers Arthur and Arthur J. Wheelock, Jr.
