The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture and The Washington National Cathedral will host a discussion exploring the politics of memory and how questions and debates about memorials and monuments help to understand the past and present around matters of race, community, identity, and nation. Moderated by Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, Art Historian at the University of Pennsylvania, the program will include a panel discussion featuring The Very Rev. Randy Hollerith, Dean, Washington National Cathedral; Paul Gardullo, Director, Center for the Study of Global Slavery, NMAAHC; Mitch Landrieu, former mayor of New Orleans and Sarah Lewis, Harvard University, The Vision & Justice Project. There will also be a keynote speech delivered by NMAAHC Curator of Photography, Visual Culture, and Contemporary History, Aaron Bryant. This program is free. Registration is encouraged.
