Maryland Goldfish Swim School Meet and Greet Events feature Olympic Gold Medalist Cullen Jones

Olympic medalist Cullen Jones is going to spend the weekend of March 29th-30th doing what he loves to do – meeting families and talking about the important role that swimming and water safety play in all of our lives. 

Local families will have the opportunity to meet a World Champion Swimmer, Wavemaker for Water Safety, and Goldfish Dad Cullen Jones at a series of Meet & Greet events hosted by Goldfish Swim School Columbia, Goldfish Swim School Waugh Chapel and Goldfish Swim School Silver Spring the weekend of March 29-30th. 

As an ambassador for Goldfish Swim School and as the dad of a young swimmer enrolled in lessons at Goldfish, Jones regularly travels the country talking about the importance of water safety and meeting young swimmers. 

After a near-drowning experience as a child, Jones was immediately enrolled in swim lessons, where it quickly became clear that he had a natural talent as a swimmer. Jones has worked tirelessly to shatter stereotypes and to help promote diversity and inclusion in the sport of swimming. He became the first African American man to win a gold medal at the World University Games in 2005, and the first Black swimmer to hold a World Record. In his Olympic swimming career, Cullen won 4 medals - earning a Gold Medal in 2008 in the 4x100 Freestyle Relay - also known as the Greatest Relay in Olympic History - then 2 Silver Medals (4x100m freestyle relay and 50m freestyle) and a Gold Medal in 4x100 medley relay at the 2012 games.

Cullen Jones’ appearances are part of a year-long Decade of Making Waves Celebration marking the 10-year anniversary of Goldfish Swim School in Maryland. The Making Waves campaign focuses on giving back to the community that has given so much to Goldfish. The Goldfish Swim School team is giving away a full year of swim lessons to 10 lucky winners in 2025.
