Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra Begins a New Chapter and New Season
A New Chapter Begins for the Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra on September 21 as Music Director/Conductor Anna Binneweg picks up the baton to kick off the 2024-2025 season with a concert to honor Hispanic Heritage Month, Unity and Resilience. The concert will showcase the rich musical repertoire of Latin America along with other, well-known compositions.
In a study of contrasts, the Naptown Philharmonic’s Season Opening Concert will begin with Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Capriccio Espagnol” and Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme,” the latter featuring soloist Diana Curtis on cello.
Featured Latin American composers are Gabriela Ortiz and Carlos Chavez, Mexico; Ernesto Lecuona, Cuba; and Astor Piazzolla, Argentina. To add to the experience, Piazzolla’s famous “Libertango” will be showcased at its finest with interpretation by talented dancers.
The concert will end with American Leonard Bernstein’s “Mambo” from “West Side Story.”
The orchestra was previously known as the Londowntowne Symphony Orchestra.
