The National Kidney Foundation Serving Maryland and Delaware (NKF) will hold a free KEEP Healthy Check Up at the First Haitian United Methodist Church Health Fair. KEEP Healthy is NKF’s community-based initiative to educate about the kidneys, risk factors for kidney disease, and steps to take to keep kidneys healthy and reduce risk.
Appointments are not required and any adult can participate. Lasting about 20 minutes, the check-up includes the following: a risk survey, body mass index, height and weight measurements, blood pressure check, blood draw to check your kidney function, free educational materials and an opportunity to speak with a health care professional and dietician.
Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the United States, killing more people every year than breast or prostate cancer. The rise in people suffering from diabetes and hypertension contributes to the increased number of people with kidney disease. Because Chronic Kidney Disease continues to increase in individuals of Caribbean origin, it’s especially important to get checked at the Haitian Health Fair.
The National Kidney Foundation is the largest, most comprehensive and longstanding organization dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease.
