The annual Old Bowie Celebrates! festival on Saturday, October 7, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m offers a fun-filled day that honors its rich cultural heritage. Live music and dance, arts and craft vendors, children’s activities, street entertainers, and more will fill the streets of Old Bowie.
The festival features entertainment and activities for every age and interest. Music includes a range of sounds from R&B, Jazz, and Rock, to bagpipes across multiple stages. Performers include Fast Eddie and the Slowpokes, Priceless Advice, Leron Young, Owen Adams, and Panquility Steel Drums to name a few. Additional performers will share traditional dance, with the festival featuring an Irish Dance group, Native Americans dancers, an African Drum and Dance Ensemble, and Square Dancing.
Children will find plenty of activities designed especially for them. They can explore a special children’s area which includes games, a balloon twister, face painter and hands-on activities from martial arts to painting. Echoes of Nature (with their animals from the Chesapeake) and Rocket Reba (demonstrating the science of slime) will entertain the children with special appearances.
The young and young at heart will marvel at the stilt walker, juggler, and magicians. Festivalgoers can ride the mini-train along the Heritage Hiking/Bike Trail, learn to play marbles, or show off their line dance moves. Festivalgoers will want to explore local history at the City of Bowie’s Welcome House Museum and the Railroad Museum. All will want to savor the local and ethnic foods available.
The festival spans 12th Street and Chestnut Avenue to Maple Avenue and 9th Street in Old Bowie.
