Rod and Reef Slam
CBF Philip Merrill Environmental Center Events 6 Herndon Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland 21403
When an estuary loses almost all its keystone oyster reefs like the Chesapeake Bay has, the change causes fundamental damage to water quality and habitat for fish, crabs, and other creatures.
In recent years, many partners have worked together to build these reefs, including the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office, the Army Corps of Engineers, Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, Oyster Recovery Partnership, and Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The return of these habitats means a return of healthy populations of popular reef fish.
Help us find out which fish can be caught on restored and enhanced reefs in Maryland's Bay region!
Anglers will have a multitude of reef locations throughout Maryland's portion of the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers at which to fish.
This tournament is a little different. You don't win just by catching the biggest fish. Prizes will be awarded for how many species you catch, and then how big your fish are. We’re celebrating variety, and the return of some of these great reef species that we’ve been missing. Past angler surveys have shown as many as 12 different species being caught in one day at the Clint Waters Reef at Cooks Point. How many can you catch? Come join us!
