Women's Equality Day Virtual Event
Virtual Event Talbot County, Maryland
In recognition of Women's Equality Day, we invite LWVAAC's members and friends to a virtual discussion of The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters. The author, Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, PhD, served two terms as the fifteenth president of the League of Women Voters of the United States (1998-2002), the only woman of color to have led our national organization in its first 100 years. She is currently an adjunct assistant professor in the School of Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Her book deals with Black history in our own organization. It tells the story of notable women of color who, despite being marginalized, fought for ratification of the 19th amendment and helped establish the LWV. As we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the League's founding, Dr. Jefferson-Jenkins calls on us to acknowledge these women's contributions and their stories.
The Untold Story of Women of Color in the League of Women Voters is available as an eBook from the Anne Arundel County Public Library. Please email program@lwvaacmd.org to request one of the print copies from LWVAAC's circulating collection.
RSVP if you plan to participate, and we'll send you the information you'll need to join us online. Enjoy the book!
