A restaurant in downtown Cambridge is looking to start up a new civic tradition—a local celebration of World Kindness Day on Thursday, Nov. 13.
Several employees from Jimmie & Sook’s Raw Bar & Grill will volunteer their time that day to get out and about through the town, performing a series of random acts of kindness such as picking up someone’s bill at the grocery store or delivering surprise treats to a local nursing home.
The restaurant plans to add a touch of theater to the occasion as well. The volunteer employees will be dressed in costume as a “jimmie” and a “sook,” in ight red crab costumes. Their escapades will be catalogued throughout the day in photographs on the Jimmie & Sook’s Facebook page.
“Mainly, we’re doing this to have some fun and do some good deeds and maybe inspire other people to join in the fun,” says restaurant owner Amanda Bramble. “If it helps some people see that we’re a local business that knows how to have fun and really cares about the community, that will be a bonus.”
The restaurant’s cele ation of World Kindness Day includes a contest open to all area residents. They, too, are invited to perform random acts of kindness around town on Thursday, Nov. 13 and then send in photographs of their good deeds via either e-mail or Facebook.
Restaurant staffers will then judge which submission was the kindest deed of them all. The prize for the winner will be a free dinner for two at Jimmie & Sook’s.
“It’s our first year trying this, and I hope some people think it’s a fun idea and get out there and participate,” Bramble says. “I know everybody here at the restaurant is excited. We’ve all got our fingers crossed that it catches on and then gets even bigger in future years.”
