rWhile I'm tempted to enter my pumpkin and turkey chili -- it's delish, guys -- I actually was a judge at this contest last year, and I know the competition is fierce. However, if you're more confident than I am, here are the details:
r
r
- r
- Meat is optional, beans are optional, but chili is defined as any kind of spicy, stew-like dish cooked with tomatoes and chili peppers. Other spices and ingredients can be added except for rice and pasta. r
- The chili must be cooked before arriving at the event. Judging begins at noon. r
- You must keep the chili hot according to the regulations of the Anne Arundel Department of Health. r
- You must prepare at least five gallons of chili for judging and sampling. r
- The entry deadline is August 22nd. r
- There is a $25 registration fee.
If salsa is more your thing, there's a competition for that, too. Here's the scoop:
r
- r
- There is a $10 registration fee. r
- The salsa must be prepared in advance. Judging begins at 1:30 p.m. r
- You must prepare at least 1 gallon of salsa. r
- Chips will be supplied, but you can bring your own, if desired. r
- Judging is based on six factors: Balance of flavors, integration of background flavors, freshness of ingredients, element of heat, originality of recipe, and showcase of the tomato. r
- The salsa champ will take home $500 in cash.
