Of course, small groups in the Chesapeake region have all-you-can-eat crab feasts nearly every weekend, and we're not diminishing how fantastic those are. However, in the next two weeks, there are two biggies: The Annapolis Rotary Crab Feast on Friday, August 5th, and the Seafood Feast-I-Val in Cam idge on Saturday, August 13th.
The 13th just happens to be my birthday, and my other- and sister-in-law just happen to live in Cam idge, so we're taking a trip over the Bay Bridge to do a little crab feastin' of our own that day.
The statistics when it comes to these crab feasts are mind-boggling. The Rotary Club's Crab Feast expects 2,500 people and will go through 478 bushels of crabs, 3,400 ears of corn, 130 gallons of crab soup, 1,800 hot dogs, and 150 pounds of beef barbecue. The Cam idge Feast-I-Val is smaller, but impressive in its own right. Chairman Ricky Travers says they expect between 1,800 and 2,000 people. Last year, they went through 100 bushels of crabs and 60 gallons of Maryland Crab Soup.
