Complete with a new logo -- see above -- The Old Stein Inn is scheduled to open its doors on September 14th. But owners Mike and Beth Selinger weren't content to simply let things be, as they used the time to upgrade the restaurant's decor and menu. Here's what they had to say:
r"The 100 year-old, A-frame cottage house has undergone an extensive $700,000 remodeling. Second-generation owners Mike Selinger and his wife, Beth, worked with renowned architect, Kathy Purple-Cherry on modernizing the Inn while retaining its homey charm.
They used reclaimed materials and fixtures, but the centerpiece is sure to be the 22-foot, 107-year-old oak and mahogany bar from the famed Carmine’s Restaurant in New York City.
Although the seating capacity will stay the same, the three smaller dining rooms have been converted to a mini-fest hall that will have the community gathering once again. The kitchen has been updated to highlight German-born Chef Jason Howard’s take on fresh and light—but still soul-comforting—cuisine.
Farm-to-table fresh ingredients and premium-raised meats will be highlights on the menu. Chef Howard won “Best New Restaurant” in his hometown of Frankfurt and will bring his knowledge of traditional German cuisine with his modern, creative influence. The summertime Biergarten will be flowing again with cold Hefeweizen, fresh salad and a make your own schnitzel menu."
The restaurant will also feature a new happy hour and bar menu, as well as festive German music. Welcome back, Old Stein. Annapolis and Edgewater have missed you!
