- The announcement that Paula Deen has diabetes probably didn't come as a shock to anyone familiar with her Southern-style, high-in-butter-and-deep-frying foods. She was apparently diagnosed three years ago, but didn't go public with the information until today, when she also announced the launch of a new campaign, Diabetes in a New Light, with Novo Nordisk, the maker of the diabetes medication that Deen herself uses to control the disease. - January is the time of year to purge yourself of unused kitchen gadget, says TheKitchn.com. I see their point and, really, I'm not much of a hoarder. But I'm just not willing to part with anything, even that unused meat tenderizer. r
