A couple weeks ago, I had a conversation with associate editor Amy and events editor Karly about their favorite method of broccoli preparation. Imagine my surprise when both of them said they simply steam and serve. Not to insult them -- you guys know I love you! -- but I could not handle such a boring way of preparing broccoli.
I often just roast the broccoli with a little bit of olive oil, but I needed something new. It turns out that adding sesame oil adds a punch of flavor that's just perfect for your side of green veggies.
Spicy Sesame Roasted Broccoli
Serves 2-3
1 pound broccoli florets
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Chop the broccoli and toss it with olive oil and soy sauce in a large mixing bowl. Arrange it in a single layer on a baking sheet and roast for 15 minutes, or until the tops of the broccoli are browned. Remove from the oven and toss with sesame oil and red pepper flakes.
