rMiddleton Tavern in Annapolis, Maryland serves up a slice of history along with regional seafood like Maryland crab cakes, rockfish, oysters, and clams. The Tavern is one of the oldest continuously operating taverns in America.
The Tavern offers its diverse clientele an extensive menu. Middleton Tavern offers a little bit of everything and is known for its local and regional seafood and tableside service. Guests can order a Caesar salad or spinach salad with a warm, sweetened bacon vinaigrette to be prepared at their table or have Chateaubriand, a center cut of tenderloin roasted to order with steamed vegetables and duchess potatoes, carved and served at the table.
The 18th-century Georgian building contains "little bits of history" on its walls, such as Civil War muskets, old Naval Academy uniforms, nautical-themed pictures, and classic Maryland landscape paintings. In the wintertime, customers can sit fireside in four different rooms, while those who prefer to dine al fresco enjoy the covered open-air café during the summer. Part of the Tavern's year-round popularity lies in the fact that you don't often get a chance to eat in a 250-year-old building.
