The event showcases Dorchester County restaurants engaged in a competition to see who makes the best crab dishes in five different categories: cream of crab soup, other crab soup, crab dip, crab cake, and crab specialty dish. A panel of out-of-town food experts gets blind tastings of all the dishes and decides the “Judge's Choice” winners.
The general ticket-buying public casts ballots to decide the “People's Choice” after tasting all 14 entries. This year's “People's Choice” winners are:

The 2012 “Best in Show” category, awarded to the single best dish across all the categories, goes to Water's Edge at the Hyatt for their crab cake.

“Judges Choice” winners were announced at the event on Saturday night. This year's panel of experts included Captain RL, The Big Daddy, Proprietor of "Fat Tuesdays" Fairfax, VA; Thomas Edwards, the proprietor of the award-winning Capt. Thom's Chili Pepper Company, in Baltimore; and Katie Moose, author of cookbooks & travel books, from Easton, MD
