brbrIt’s no secret that an arsenal of makeup and some serious application skills can create a perfect complexion. But it’s nice to know underneath it all is a healthy base—that is, ultimately, your best bet for a flawless face.
brbrSo, if you’ve been slacking on taking care of your skin—and we’re talking about more than a nightly rinse with soap and water or swipe of a makeup remover sheet—then it’s time to rethink your routine.
brbrFacials aren’t just a luxury indulgence. They help to hydrate skin, unclog pores, reduce the appearance of fine lines, promote collagen production, and more. We asked two local estheticians—Kay Wright with Robert Andrew Salon & Spa and Ivy Usilton with FLOW Salonspa—to discuss their recommended facial treatments. We also added an at-home tutorial to get you through those weeks in between your appointments—because we can only imagine after experiencing these, you’ll be wishing away the time ’til you’re back at the spa!

brbrA relaxing and refreshing experience, the Elemental Nature Facial includes deep cleansing, exfoliation, steam, a customized masque, and a hydrating massage. This highly-personalized treatment for the skin—products vary for each person dependent on their skin type and concerns they wish to address—make this facial ideal for anyone. All products are free of parabens, phthalates, and sodium lauryl sulfate, according to the Aveda website, and essential oils are used during the massage. The treatment runs 60 or 90 minutes, depending on one’s preference, and should be repeated every four to six weeks for maximum results. An added bonus: all Aveda spa services incorporate the entire body, including a warm foot bath and scalp massage. Following treatment, some redness and sensitivity is to be expected, but it should subside within a few hours. An immediate difference in your skin’s tone and texture will be noticeable.
“Elemental Nature uncovers the causes of your skin concerns and prescribes a holistic program to treat it. Identifying imbalance and restoring balance, while incorporating touch, breath, and aroma.”
–Ivy Usilton, Esthetician/Massage Therapist

brbrThe Hydra Facial is a non-invasive treatment offering a deeper cleansing and exfoliation of the skin, along with painless extractions, to truly rid skin of any impurities. A combination of peptides, salicylic acid, and glycolic acid is applied to the face, followed by the infusion of hyaluronic acid to help tighten and firm the skin’s surface. To increase hydration, a combination of vitamins A, C, and E are applied. You can choose between a 30 or 60 minute course of treatment. Although results are noticeable following one treatment, a series of four is recommended for maximum results. Every skin type reacts differently to treatment, but some immediate redness may occur, which, Wright says, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. “Bringing the blood flow to the surface of the skin is a sign of good health,” she adds.
“[The Hydra Facial is] an affordable facial experience using top of the line products, offering the quality of touch and technology. Rave reviews and great results.”
