brInevitably, the season of bikinis, boat rides, and barbecues can cause quite a bit of sun damage to our skin—even with consistent sunscreen application. The good news, however, is it isn’t too late to reverse some of those negative effects.
brbr “Fall offers a great opportunity to refresh and repair the damage that has occurred and get [the skin] ready for the winter months.”

Exfoliate to Elegance
brStart with a ViPeel, an in-office chemical treatment that helps to rid the skin of sun damage—like those pesky brown spots—by removing impurities, repairing cellular damage, and stimulating collagen. Follow the procedure with a microdermabrasion treatment, in which an aesthetician uses a handheld device to exfoliate the outer layer of skin, removing dead cells and increasing blood circulation to the area. A laser-cut diamond-tipped wand—the newest method in microdermabrasion—allows for a more precise treatment, particularly around more sensitive areas, like the eyes and mouth, with less skin irritation.A Look Inside a ViPeel
Trichloroacetic Acid Helps to remove damaged skin cells and stimulate collagen and elastin growth
Tretinoin Acid A Vitamin A derivative, often found in anti-aging products to treat photoaging (skin damage—or premature aging—from prolonged exposure to UV radiation)
Salicylic Acid An exfoliant derived from the bark of willow trees typically used in anti-acne products
Phenol A carbolic acid, often used as an analgesic and anesthetic, helps the solution penetrate the skin
Vitamin C An ascorbic acid that brightens and exfoliates skin
Moisturizer Maven
brIt’s important to apply moisturizer at least twice a day to help rejuvenate skin—even if it’s on the oilier side. In fact, shiny skin is often a result of dehydrated cells. For combination-to-dry skin, use moisturizers with emollients, like Petrolatum and Dimethicone, and humectants, like glycerin, to help smooth skin while sealing in moisture. Oily skin? Skip products that contain mineral oil, which can clog pores, and look for hyaluronic acid, which hydrates skin naturally and plumps up wrinkles!Be SPF Savvy
brWear sunscreen daily regardless of the season. Be sure it’s labeled as “broad spectrum” to protect against both UVB rays, which damage the surface of the skin and cause sunburn, and UVA rays, which penetrate deeper into the skin, resulting in wrinkles and other signs of aging. These rays can pass through clouds and glass (think car windows!) even in the dead of winter and studies now suggest they may initiate skin cancer development.Bare that Bronze
brExtend summer (and ease into the holiday season!) by maintaining that bronze goddess status, courtesy of a quick and easy spray tan—a cost effective, non-toxic method to keep that much sought after summer glow. Trade in natural tanners with carrot exact (hello, orange hue!) for solutions made with natural beet and walnut derivatives for that bronze, “just off the beach” look. And be sure to opt for the solution to be applied by hand to ensure a precise and streak-free tan.Since 2003, Sullivan Integrated Aesthetic Center has offered results-oriented treatments in a relaxing environment.
