The respected Cleveland Clinic wants us to know the effects foods can have on our largest organ—our skin. They tell us that foods rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, omega-3, and zinc will help prevent inflammation, reduce acne breakouts, and leave your skin looking its best. br
But they also warn us about a few things not to eat:
1. Sugar. Too much sugar can disrupt the balance in our body’s proteins, including collagen which is responsible for our skin’s strength and elasticity. (But why does it taste so good?)
2. Foods with a high glycemic index. They are talking white ead, white pastas and potatoes, sugary drinks, and snacks. Preliminary research suggests foods with a high glycemic index cause acne eakouts in many people. (See taste good comment above.)
3. Salt. Too much sodium dehydrates skin which can suck the moisture right out of it. Salt, ironically, can also cause you to retain water, resulting in bags under the eyes and other visible signs.
4. Dairy. Typical Western diets include many dairy sources that contain hormones, including certain types of steroids and growth hormones. These stimulate acne as well.
