These sugar scrubs can be used all over your body, not just your face. Your arms and legs need exfoliating as well! Exfoliating your skin can bring tired and dull skin to smooth and flawless in seconds. Another added bonus is that rubbing the sugar scrub in a circular motion on your skin can help free ingrown hairs. Try these homemade sugar scrubs. You know exactly what is in them, can make it as scented or mild as you would like, and gives you a little project at home.
Below are the ingredients for different scrubs. Add in your favorite essential oils, or the ones recommended below. For all recipes, mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container. If you want a thicker scrub, use less oil, and for a thinner scrub, more oil. Also, if using coconut oil, make sure it is either room temperature or melted to make it easier to mix.
Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub
1 cup organic Brown Sugar
½ cup oil (almond oil, olive oil or coconut oil is best)
½ teaspoon vitamin E oil (acts as a natural preservative)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Peppermint Sugar Scrub
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup liquid oil
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
Strawberry Sugar Scrub
1 cup cane sugar
1 cup freeze-dried strawberries
¾ cup coconut oil
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Before combining, place freeze-dried strawberries in a sealed bag and use a rolling pin to crush strawberries until very fine.
Cucumber Mint Sugar Scrub
¼ cucumber, unpeeled
¾ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons coconut oil
8-10 drops peppermint essential oil
Before combining ingredients, puree cucumber until all the skin is in tiny flecks. Because of the cucumber, this scrub should be stored in the fridge.
Coffee Sugar Scrub
1 cup ground coffee
1 cup granulated sugar
½ cup olive oil
Snickerdoodle Sugar Scrub
2/3 cup coconut oil
½ cup sugar
½ cup brown sugar
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
Blackberry and Sage Sugar Scrub
3 cups white sugar
1/3 cup coconut oil
8-12 large sage leaves
½ cup blackberries
Combine all ingredients in food processor and process on high until smooth.
