Perched over the Severn and on a nip of land near the river’s mouth, sits a spectacularly groomed property that shows amazingly; even within the small neighborhood of Ferry Farms, in which every home could be considered a masterpiece.
From a historical perspective, this stretch of land on the Broadneck Peninsula of Annapolis was once owned by the Brice family, one of Anne Arundel County’s oldest and most prominent families during the 1700–1800s, who cultivated it for nearly 200 years. According to the Maryland Historical Trust, John Brice, Jr. patented the land associated with Ferry Point Farm in 1727, and his descendants maintained ownership into the 20th century. The farm’s name is derived from the fact that the Brices owned and operated the Severn River Ferry, whose northern terminus was on this stretch of property.
Landscaping that Cascades Down to the Shoreline
Having been inherited by several generations of Brices, the land became increasingly desirable for development. By 1909, the immediate area was divided into 65 individual lots. The original Brice farmhouse remained in Ferry Farms until about 2011, at which point it was either moved or demolished. Today, premium estates line the waterfront with panoramic views of the river, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the City of Annapolis. This 1999-built traditional-style home is no exception.
Hardwood Floors Weave through Multiple Rooms
While the front entrance offers an elegant welcome—with a circular, ick driveway, an exterior veranda, and tiled foyer—it’s the rear of the property that truly shines. From the main floor, French doors open to a Southern-style porch that overlooks the pool below and lush landscaping that cascades down to the shoreline, where the river draws the eye southward to the Academy and cityscape. Below, the walkout level basement features an expansive sliding doorway that opens the room directly to the pool deck and trellised entertainment spaces on both the left and right. Whether up or down, the openness of the floorplan coupled with ight and eezy access to the outdoor amenities helps make this property feel like an estate you might find in Laguna Beach or Beverly Hills.
The interior is equally impeccable. Gorgeous heart of pine hardwood floors weave through multiple rooms on each level of the home, where you might happen upon one of the four fireplaces, two offices, theater, or gym. With five bedrooms overall, 7.5 baths, and a second kitchen, this home was built with entertaining and accommodating guests in mind. And when the new homeowners of this property—which was listed by Travis Gray of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and settled in late-spring for $4.3M—seek respite and relaxation, the gourmet chef’s kitchen offers a gathering spot, as does the two-level great room or, even, the master suite, complete with sauna, separate vanities, and, walk-in closet.
Lavish Wall-and-Ceiling Paper
Additional eye-catching embellishments include lavish wall-and-ceiling paper in several rooms, serpentine staircasing, cedar closets, granite countertops, and an elevator. And true to many luxury waterfronts in the Chesapeake region, the property includes a deep-water pier with three boat lifts. So, if the sweeping views of the river aren’t enough, the new owners can actually play on it; let the fun begin.
