The “Eastern Shore Blues.” Think: Broad skies and deep water, and then you have the makings of the “Happy Blues.”
This young couple, whose favorite color is blue, wanted their custom home to reflect their Italian heritage, with a resort, beachy feel. They challenged us by refusing the typical sailboats, shells, and anchor motifs.
I laughed that I didn’t know what Italian beachy looked like, and suggested a Mediterranean villa look.
We started with ceramic tile floors throughout, in varied colors of sand, and added a custom rug that reflects the movement of waves in the sand. We added a palette of sky blues, the indigo blue of the Gulf Stream, and the soft blues and greens of the inshore and bay waters. The round circle design on the pillows looks subtly like sand dollars.
Finally, large furniture was a must, and custom cabinetry shows off family treasures, with space for pieces their world travels will provide.
