Hospice Cup Artist Competition
Submissions for the Hospice Cup Artist Competition are due March 16th. Hospice Cup, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1981 to help local and regional hospices raise funds for patient programs and is now in it’s 40th year. In collaboration with Maryland Federation of Art (MFA), the organization hosts an annual competition for a piece of artwork to serve as the backdrop for their yearly poster. Artists are invited to submit two pieces of art and the winning work will be chosen by a People’s Choice online, as well as the board of the Hospice Cup organization. The winning piece is considered a donation to Hospice Cup and will be reproduced on posters, t-shirts and other collateral material promoting the event. Work submitted for the poster competition will be on display in MFA’s online People’s Choice Gallery March 13-26 and artwork may be offered for sale. There is no fee to enter work for consideration. The Arc Central Chesapeake Region Announces $42,000 Family Fund to Support Local Children with Disabilities
The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, a nonprofit committed to transforming lives for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), announced today over $42,000 available for Maryland youth through their Family Fund grant. The Arc is seeking applicants that have a child with I/DD under the age of 21 who reside in Maryland. Applications for the Family Fund open March 1, 2021, with awards issued in May of this year.
"We are very grateful for the continued generosity of our community, which makes this fund possible,” said Jonathon Rondeau, CEO, The Arc. “There are effective therapies, services, and adaptive equipment available to support children with disabilities, but these resources are expensive and are often not covered by insurance. With our Family Fund, we work to fill the gaps in access to the supports we know make a significant difference in the lives of youth with a disability.”
Anne Arundel County Public Library Goes Fine Free
Officials from the Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) last week announced that all system materials are now fine free. Additionally, the library also waived $361,425 in old fines for customers. More than 28,000 people received the surprise savings. The announcement, made at an event outside the Brooklyn Park Library, featured County Executive Steuart Pittman who has pledged any necessary funding to supplement the library’s loss in revenue. Fine revenue has continued to decrease year over year with only $112,827 collected in FY 20 and about half that amount expected this year. The library went fine free for children’s materials in January 2020.
