At the helm of Academy Realty is Broker of Record Joni Jones and Associate Broker Jack Papaleonti. An unlikely partnership, mother and son in-law, together they have built a reputation as leading Realtors in the region. With over 50 years combined real estate experience, Joni and Jack began their partnership in 2007, and what a ride it has been. Together they grew the company from a mere $4 Million of gross home sales in one year to exceeding $21.6 Million in 2013. “We have a great partnership. I never thought I’d be in business with my mother in-law,” says Jack. “We are having a lot of fun helping people with major decisions in purchasing and selling, what is for many, the most important asset they’ll ever own.”
Jack Papaleonti, an entrepreneur since college, co-founded a photography company in upstate New York which ultimately employed over 100 employees, and included four studios and a photography lab. In 1998, he sold the business to his partner to move back home to Annapolis with his wife and children. After a stint in mortgage lending and banking, Jack decided to take all of his experiences and concentrate on the one thing he loves the most, making deals. He earned the designation of GRI and this year earned the distinction of Lifetime Membership in the Anne Arundel County Association of Realtors’ Masters Club for maintaining high sales volume for more than three consecutive years.
In 1984 Joni Jones and her late husband J. Harry Jones invested in and ran a Century 21 office on the Eastern Shore. Valuable experience was gained managing several agents and juggling numerous transactions at a time. “I don’t miss the hectic days of solving other agent’s problems,” says Joni. “I truly cherish the relationships I’ve made over the years working more intimately with clients.” She feels the relationships created now are not just business, but personal. For this reason, they categorize themselves as a “Boutique Real Estate Company.”
In 2014 Academy Realty was voted as a Finalist for The Capital Readers Choice Award for the third time. Their newest agent, Deb Randall-Hertel, worked for a similar firm in Montgomery County for 8 years. “It’s all about building personal relationships and accountability, which is what attracted me to Jack and Joni.” She joins current agents Jane McQuilkin and Charlie Wimpee.
Unlike other Brokerages, Academy Realty also offers ab eviated services, such as listing seller homes on MLS or assisting a buyer in a For Sale By Owner purchase. Academy Realty can help in these types of situations, saving their clients thousands.
Academy Realty is a home-grown agency, continuing to be a leading real estate company in the Annapolis area, and prides themselves on their biggest advocates; past clients.

Q: Why do many Brokerage firms charge ‘Administration Fees’ or ‘Admin Fees’ in addition to their commission?
A: It’s become common for Brokerage firms to charge additional fees (often listed as Admin. Fees) which are over and above the agreed upon commission. This is an additional source of income for real estate companies and is rarely recognized, questioned or disputed by the buyer or seller at contract signing with the Agent. Academy Realty does not charge Admin Fees. Our commission covers every aspect of our services no matter how [easy or difficult/ smooth or rough/ simple or complicated] your transaction is.
