Introducing SnowPaths: A New GPS Tracking Tool Provides Real-Time Road Salting and Plowing Progress, Ensuring Safer Winter Travel for Residents, Businesses, and Visitors
Annapolis, MD – The City of Annapolis is pleased to announce SnowPaths, an initiative by the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and Department of Public Works (DPW) to provide residents, business owners, and visitors with real-time GPS tracking of winter road maintenance during snow and ice events. Accessible online at www.annapolis.gov/snowpaths, SnowPaths displays the latest updates on road salting and plowing operations and highlights priority routes for essential emergency travel, making it safer and easier to navigate Annapolis during winter storms.
“As winter weather brings unique challenges, SnowPaths offers our community a new level of awareness and safety by showing which roads have been treated,” said Burr Vogel, Director of the Department of Public Works. “This tool empowers people to plan safer, more efficient travel and helps us work together to keep Annapolis moving, even in challenging weather.”
“SnowPaths is part of our commitment to proactive emergency management,” added Kevin Simmons, Director of the Office of Emergency Management. “By providing real-time road condition updates, we’re giving residents and visitors a valuable resource to make informed decisions and stay safe throughout the winter season.”
SnowPaths features an interactive map that displays real-time information on when roads were last serviced. Users can also view priority levels for roads throughout the city. Priority roads include emergency and connector routes that are serviced more frequently to allow for essential travel and safer access to critical services.
Optimized for both desktop and mobile devices, SnowPaths allows easy access to critical information anytime, anywhere. By providing a clear view of current road conditions and prioritization, SnowPaths supports residents, businesses, and visitors in several ways:
- Residents can plan safer commutes, errands, and essential travel, even in snowy conditions.
- Businesses can anticipate when roadways near their location are accessible, helping maintain operations during winter weather.
- Visitors and tourists can navigate the city with confidence, knowing which streets have been cleared for travel and understanding priority levels for road treatment operations.
