ANNAPOLIS, MD - The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for an area including Northern Virginia, Washington, DC, and in Maryland, Anne Arundel, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties. Starting Tuesday afternoon, a wintry mix is expected to arrive in the Annapolis area in the early afternoon. While temperatures in the early hours of the storm will stay above freezing, accumulations of snow are anticipated as the temperature drops below freezing after sunset on Tuesday. Total snow accumulations are predicted to be in the 4- to 6-inch range. Expect slippery road conditions for the evening rush hour on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning.
Annapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) is prepared with deicing agents and plow crews who will begin pretreating roadways starting on Tuesday. Crews will continue to work in 12-hour shifts until all City roads are passable.
Remove Vehicles from Snow Emergency Routes: In order to facilitate the work of plow crews, the City will open parking garages in downtown at 12 p.m. on Tuesday so that residents can move their cars off of Snow Emergency Routes. Vehicles that remain on Snow Emergency Routes after 3 p.m. on Tuesday MAY be subject to towing if plows are unable to navigate around the parked vehicle. Annapolis Police will make every effort to contact vehicle owners to move vehicles in order to avoid towing. Residents also have the option of parking in their own driveways or moving vehicles to side streets.
Free Garage Parking: Residents may park in the City of Annapolis owned Garages during the snow emergency for free from 12 p.m. noon Tuesday, February 11 until 9 a.m. Thursday February 13. Please register in advance for Park Place, Knighton or Gotts garage at Annapolisparking@spplus.com or call (443) 648-3087. For Hillman Garage Annapolis@premiumparking.com if you are already registered for free two-hour parking at HIllman Garage you can park in that garage without preregistering.
Annapolis Transit: At this time, transit routes will operate on a regular schedule, but may migrate to a Sunday schedule if conditions deteriorate. For updates or changes to Annapolis Transit, visit: the City’s Facebook page or call 410-263-7964.
Recreation and Parks: At this time, the Roger “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center will follow regularly scheduled closing and opening times. For schedule changes or snow-related closures, please visit the Recreation and Parks FACEBOOK page.
Warming Center Opening: The Stanton Center, at 92 West Washington Street in Annapolis, will be open every night the outside temperature is below 32 degrees, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. This week, that will include Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please note all referrals must check-in to the Stanton Center nightly by 9 p.m.
Emergency Operations Center and Annapolis Call Center: The Emergency Operations Center will be at an “enhanced” level on Tuesday and partial on Wednesday to coordinate the City’s preparedness activities. The Annapolis Call Center will be operational throughout this event for non-emergency questions related to the winter storm and City Services. Annapolis residents can call 410-260-2211. Refuse and Recycling Pickups: At this time, Tuesday refuse and recycling pickups will take place as scheduled. The City of Annapolis does not have any scheduled collections on Wednesdays.
City Meetings:
- State of Black Annapolis (5 p.m. on Tuesday at the Michael E. Busch Public Library) will follow Anne Arundel County Public Library closures.
- Historic Preservation Commission (7 p.m. on Tuesday in City Council Chambers) will be in-person with an option for the public to present testimony virtually. - Housing and Human Welfare (7 p.m. on Wednesday in City Council Chambers) will be in-person.
SnowPaths: The City of Annapolis deploys “Snow Paths,” a digital plow tracking initiative that provides residents, business owners, and visitors with GPS tracking of winter road maintenance during snow and ice events. Accessible online at www.annapolis.gov/snowpaths, SnowPaths displays an interactive map with updates on road salting and plowing operations and highlights priority routes for essential emergency travel, making it safer and easier to navigate Annapolis during winter storms.

Please check on elderly and vulnerable neighbors, make sure to shovel your sidewalk (not into the street, please, and clear debris away from storm drains and fire hydrants.
