ANNAPOLIS, MD – Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley will officiate a groundbreaking ceremony for Robert Eades Park at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2025. The revitalization of the park on College Creek is named in honor of beloved Annapolis resident and community advocate Robert Eades. The official groundbreaking ceremony is open to the public and will take place at the site, 701 Glenwood Street in Annapolis. Construction of the park is expected to take approximately eight months, weather permitting.
Robert Eades was a passionate advocate for the Clay Street community and a strong supporter of Annapolis families who faced housing insecurity. Mr. Eades passed away in 2020. The park will be a reminder of his legacy of extensive volunteer work, particularly with the Light House Shelter and the Restoration Community Development Corporation. Robert’s dedication to uplifting others made a lasting impact on the lives of many Annapolis residents.
“Robert Eades gave his heart and soul to this City and especially to those who needed a hand,” said Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley. “Dedicating this park in his name is a tribute to his legacy of service, compassion, and community spirit. It’s a space that will not only enhance the neighborhood but also bring people together, like Robert once did.”
The park will feature an updated sidewalk along Glenwood Street, a scenic brick path leading to a memorial circle with seating, a plaque honoring Mr. Eades, a water access path, bike racks, and thoughtfully designed landscaping throughout the site. The total project investment includes planning/ design ($136,894) and the cost of construction ($380,771) for a total construction cost of $517,665.
Designed by Annapolis Landscape Architects, the park’s design team also includes local artist Comacell Brown, who brings a knowledge of Annapolis and a creative lens to the project. McCrone is serving as the design engineer, Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates as the geotechnical engineer, and Superior Facilities Management Services, LLC (SFMS, LLC) will oversee construction.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early September, with an estimated completion date of April 2026, weather permitting. Temporary fencing will be installed around the site, and construction will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents may see intermittent sidewalk closures, temporary lane closures, and limited parking in the immediate area during working hours. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.
Funding for Robert Eades Park is provided through a combination of sources, including the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) Community Legacy Program, the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) Capital Grant Program, and the City of Annapolis Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
