ANNAPOLIS, MD - The City of Annapolis continues recovery efforts from Sunday’s winter storm with ongoing plowing operations. As of Tuesday, all Snow Emergency Routes are passable, and most are down to bare pavement. All connector routes are passable. Plow crews are continuing to work through neighborhood streets as conditions allow. This phase of operations takes time due to narrow streets, parked vehicles, and ongoing extreme cold. We appreciate the public’s patience as crews work methodically and prioritize safety across the city.
SIDEWALKS: The City of Annapolis requires both residential and commercial property owners to remove snow/ice from sidewalks. Due to the nature of the winter precipitation and prolonged cold, removal is challenging at this time. As of today (Tuesday):
- Residential Enforcement: The City has suspended enforcement for individual residential properties. When conditions reasonably allow for snow/ice clearing (i.e., compliance), the City will resume enforcement, starting with warnings and progressing to citations.
- Commercial Property Enforcement: The City may issue warnings where sidewalks remain uncleared. Enforcement action could follow.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) will reassess conditions daily and share updates on the City website and social media. When conditions improve, enforcement will follow a phased approach, beginning with warnings before citations.
GARAGE PARKING: Free storm parking at City garages (Mills, Hillman, Gotts, Knighton, and Park Place) will end at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 28. For residents who are unable to move vehicles to a cleared street space or driveway, the City will offer discounted all-day parking at Park Place for $5/day (regularly $22/day) Tuesday through Sunday. Simply drive in and follow the instructions on signage posted throughout the garage to register the license plate of your vehicle. Residents can use the free Magenta shuttle to travel between City garages and nearby neighborhoods. At this time, roadways between the City garages are clear.
“This is a challenging situation,” said Mayor Jared Littmann. “Our goal is to balance the objectives of clearing snow and ice while being realistic about how difficult ice removal is without heavy equipment. We will take this one day at a time, and we will eventually dig out.”
GOVERNMENT OPERATIONS: City of Annapolis government offices will open on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, Jan. 27 with liberal leave and telework options in place. All City offices will open at 10:30 a.m., including the Pip Moyer Recreation Center and Stanton Center. Essential employees should report according to their assigned work schedule. Quasi-essential employees should check with their supervisors regarding reporting for work. Prior to taking liberal leave or choosing telework, ensure you have the approval of your supervisor.
REFUSE AND RECYCLING PICKUPS: Trash and recycling pickup for Tuesday is canceled. If your regular collection date is Monday, pickup will be on Wednesday. Tuesday collections move to Thursday. Thursday moves to Friday and Friday to Saturday. There is no metal bulk pickup and no yard waste pickup this week.
WARMING CENTER: The Pip Moyer Recreation Center auxiliary gym will be open as an emergency temporary warming center every day until Monday, February 2nd, at 7:00 AM. If there is a need for general or long-term sheltering assistance, please contact the Crisis Response System Warmline at 410-768-5522.

RECREATION & PARKS: The Pip Moyer Recreation Center and the Stanton Center will open at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
SCHOOL OPERATING STATUS: Anne Arundel County Public Schools are closed for Tuesday, Jan. 27 and Wednesday, Jan. 28;
ANNAPOLIS CALL CENTER & EOC ACTIVATION: The City of Annapolis Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has moved to “partial” activation level as staff coordinates resources and response efforts. The Annapolis Call Center will be operational throughout this event for non-emergency storm-related questions or to add your name to the Special Assistance Roster. Annapolis residents can call 410-260-2211. For emergencies, dial 9-1-1.
BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR: Please check in on elderly and vulnerable neighbors; if snow or ice accumulates, be sure to shovel your sidewalk and clear fire hydrants.
