Collaborative Divorce ~ The Future Is Now
Collaborative Divorce is a refined approach to divorce with the express intention of avoiding the stress and trauma of litigation. In Collaborative Divorce, couples and their attorneys agree in advance not to litigate. If either party ignores the agreement and goes to court, both attorneys resign from the case. Unlike an adversarial divorce, Collaborative Divorce uses a team approach; you, your spouse, your lawyer and your spouse’s lawyer all working collaboratively. Sometimes the team is expanded to include a Child Specialist, a Divorce Coach, a Financial Advisor or others who help develop a plan to serve the family’s interests.

Q. When should couples, who are separating or divorcing, consider using Collaborative Practice?
A. Collaborative Practice can be used when couples want a civilized, respectful resolution to their issues and are willing to focus on solutions rather than on blame or revenge. This approach is ideal when someone wants to maintain a productive working relationship with their (ex) spouse and/or when they will be co-parenting and want to keep children’s interest at the forefront. Collaborative Practice is also appropriate when couples want to control decisions regarding childrearing and/or financial arrangements rather than turning them over to a stranger (judge); and for those whole value privacy.
