Alyssa Thompson thrives off competition. So much so, that even when her nerves get the best of her, she uses the adrenaline to her benefit.
A prime example of that came when taking on rival Severna Park during their 2013 season opener and she pulled into the school parking lot behind the opponent’s team bus prior to the game.
“I was so nervous,” Thompson said. “I rarely ever get nervous for games. It’s not really a thing I do. I was driving into the school and I was behind their bus and I just started shaking. I never freak out, ever, and I was so nervous.”
As it turns out, Thompson was told she had “played the game of her life” and impressed those in attendance in a 1-0 loss to the Falcons.
Her remarkable 2013 campaign helped lead her to St. Mary’s College, where she will play field hockey and plans to major in education.
“Some of my biggest heroes are teachers and they have such strong power,” Thompson says.
She earned Honorable Mention All-County in her sophomore season, earned Player of the Week honors in USA Field Hockey Magazine, and First Team All-County this past season as a senior.
