ANNAPOLIS, MD - Annapolis Mayor Jared Littmann will host a street sign dedication ceremony to honor the late De Lorma "Dee" Goodwyn. The ceremony, in partnership with the Caucus of African American Leaders (CAAL), will take place at 12 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Northwest Street at Calvert Street in Annapolis. CAAL will host a reception afterwards at Asbury United Methodist Church (87 West Street, Annapolis).
The dedication honors Goodwyn, a community activist who grew up in the Clay Street community. She was a founding member of the Caucus of African American Leaders. Known as a "quiet force" for positive change, she was the driving vision behind several of the city's most prominent public memorials, including the Guardians of the First Amendment Memorial on Compromise Street and the Parren J. Mitchell Memorial at the Pip Moyer Recreation Center.
Goodwyn passed away earlier this year, and the Annapolis City Council passed a resolution to honor her with an honorary street renaming.
"Dee invested so much of herself into Annapolis," said Mayor Jared Littmann. "She never sought the spotlight for herself and worked tirelessly to ensure others were seen. This honorary sign is a fitting and permanent reminder of her legacy in Annapolis."
Alongside the unveiling of the commemorative sign, Mayor Littmann will issue an official proclamation declaring May 30, 2026, as "Dee Goodwyn Day" in the City of Annapolis. The proclamation acknowledges her commitment to community and her advocacy for civil rights.
