ANNAPOLIS, Md. (October 21, 2021) - Comptroller Peter Franchot issued the following statement following Attorney General Brian Frosh's announcement today that he will not seek re-election in 2022.
"Today, my good friend, Brian Frosh, announced his intention not to seek re-election as our state’s Attorney General. Brian and I began our public service career in Annapolis together, when we were sworn in as members of the House of Delegates in 1987.
"As a legislator and as our state’s chief law enforcement officer, Brian has been an unapologetic champion of crime victims and communities that are underrepresented in the justice system and the corridors of power in Annapolis. He has been at the forefront of landmark reforms concerning civil rights and criminal justice — from marriage equality, to the repeal of the death penalty, to consumer protection, voting rights, public safety measures, and many more.
"Over the past several years, General Frosh and I have worked closely together to protect Marylanders from the epidemic of tax fraud and identity theft. Thanks to our collaborative partnership, we’ve had a 100% conviction rate for tax fraud cases — and together, we’ve held criminals accountable for preying on seniors, vulnerable residents, and hardworking taxpayers. I’d like to thank General Frosh for the critically important work that we’ve done on this front. It may not generate headlines, but its impact on everyday Marylanders is immeasurable.
"Annie and I join Marylanders across our state in thanking General Frosh for his three-and-a-half decades of service, and wish him and his wonderful wife, Marcy, the very best as they embark on this new chapter in their lives together."
