Annapolis, MD - Comptroller Franchot on Thursday, May 12, will visit a beach restoration project and present the William Donald Schaefer Helping People Award for Anne Arundel County.
The Comptroller will join local elected officials and community leaders to tour the Cape St. Claire Community Beach Restoration Project with Beau Breeden, president of the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association. The project’s goal was to protect the shoreline form erosion, replenish the beach and provide resiliency for storm surge and climate change by constructing a headland breakwater, groins and beach replenishment with sand and cobble.
Mr. Franchot then will present the Schaefer Award to Curtis “Gunny” Jones, commander of American Legion Cook-Pinkney Post 141.
Mr. Jones is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who helps fellow veterans and their widows, as well as other senior citizens, with needed repairs in and around their homes. He also assists those who qualify for VA benefits but don’t know how to submit a claim.
