Annapolis, MD – On Wednesday, March 26, marking the first anniversary of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse, County Executive Steuart Pittman offers the following reflection:
“A year ago today, the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed, taking six beloved men from their families and changing our state forever.
I will never forget the phone calls from that night. First from Mayor Brandon Scott, then Governor Wes Moore, and then County Executive Johnny Oszlewski. Then came the calls from our Fire Chief Trisha Wolford and Police Chief Amal Awad, whose first responders were on the scene.
That morning, the world took notice of Marylanders - our grit, our compassion, and our resilience.
I saw firsthand how our communities and our public servants at the federal, state, and local levels came together to do the seemingly impossible. I am forever grateful for the leadership of Governor Wes Moore and his team for guiding us through the response and recovery of this tragedy.
Today, we honor the memory of the six men we lost. Each of them were on that bridge working to make life better for Marylanders. I am holding their families and loved ones in my heart on this difficult day.”

“Hoy hace un año, el puente Francis Scott Key se derrumbó, llevándose a seis hombres queridos de sus familias y cambiando nuestro estado para siempre.
Las llamadas que recibí esa noche nunca las olvidaré. Primero, del alcalde Brandon Scott, después del gobernador Wes Moore y, finalmente, del ejecutivo del condado, Johnny Oszlewski. Después, llegaron las llamadas de nuestra jefa de bomberos, Trisha Wolford, y de la jefa de policía, Amal Awad, cuyos equipos de emergencia acudieron al lugar.
Esa mañana, el mundo se fijó en los habitantes de Maryland: nuestra determinación, nuestra compasión y nuestra resiliencia.
Vi de primera mano cómo nuestras comunidades y nuestros servidores públicos a nivel federal, estatal y local se unieron para lograr lo que parecía imposible. Estoy eternamente agradecido por el liderazgo del gobernador Wes Moore y su equipo por guiarnos en la respuesta y la recuperación de esta tragedia.
