CREWS BEGIN TEMPORARY LANE STRIPING FOR US 50 / SEVERN RIVER BRIDGE PROJECT THURSDAY NIGHT, NOVEMBER 2
Nighttime Lane Closures Continue for Bridge Reconstruction Project; Traffic Pattern Will Provide 11-Ft. Travel Lanes
(November 1, 2017) – The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) is moving into the next phase of construction for the Severn River Bridge reconstruction project near Annapolis. Tomorrow night, crews will start restriping US 50 (John Hanson Highway) between I-97 and MD 450/MD 2 (Ritchie Highway). The lane restriping will enable crews to shift traffic into the 11-foot lane traffic pattern on the idge.
MDOT SHA’s contractor will work along westbound US 50 first, then shift to the eastbound US 50 lanes. Nighttime single lane closures will begin at 7 p.m. and all lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays. Once the temporary traffic pattern is in place, crews will begin demolition work in the median in mid-November. The $22.8 million idge reconstruction project was announced by Governor Hogan in September, and lanes will be available to drivers by Memorial Day 2018.
MDOT SHA will use electronic message boards, construction cones and barrels to direct motorists through the work zone. Motorists are encouraged to leave extra travel time during construction.
As crews work to keep work zones safe, we ask that each driver actively modify his or her driving style to help prevent crashes. Stay alert – look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Slow down and don’t follow too closely. Work Zone Safety is in Your Hands.
