Ocean City, MD - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting dredging operations in the Ocean City Inlet from July 26 - 29, 2021.
This upcoming project will allow the Army Corps to address the known shoaling in the inlet as well as potentially remove other obstacles caused by Tropical Storm Elsa.
Background: For the past four years, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources has led a workgroup to find short-term and long-term solutions for shoaling in the Ocean City Inlet.
That group includes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; the National Park Service; elected officials and staff of the federal, state, county, and municipal government, and local businesses, and has stayed engaged with the Corps and U.S. Coast Guard to achieve results.
The dredging effort was triggered as a result of a recent bottom survey of the Inlet conducted by Maryland DNR which resulted in temporary realignment of channel markers to better reflect current channel conditions and support the scheduling of the Corps of Engineers dredging effort.
The continuing close working relationship between the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Coast Guard has facilitated rapid response to ever-shifting conditions in the Inlet.
