ANNAPOLIS, MD - An inspection of the sewer main on King George Street revealed deteriorating pipe that needs immediate replacement. The City of Annapolis Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Schummer, Inc., will replace the pipe with work beginning on Thursday, December 5. Excavation work will start on or about Tuesday, December 10. The work is projected to take 60 days to complete (February 2025), weather permitting.
The specific area of the work is at King George Street from Randall Street (near Gate 1 of the United States Naval Academy) to the end of the Navy wall just before the intersection at Maryland Avenue. The initial few days of work at the King George/Randall Street intersection will be conducted at night. The remaining work will take place during the day.
No work will be performed during the week of Christmas and New Years, unless additional emergency work is required. Work will resume on January 2, 2025.
Residents and businesses in the area can expect some disruptions during the project including traffic delays and detours. Please use alternate routes if possible. There will be parking restrictions. Please follow marked signage for parking, detours, and road closures.
At this time, there are no water and sewer restrictions for downtown, but residents and businesses whose homes are immediately adjacent may receive notices for restrictions at certain points during the repair. Individual property owners will be notified by DPW.
