Easton, MD - The Easton Police Department (EPD) is excited to announce the creation of the EPD Cadet Program. The Cadet Program is a new initiative by EPD that gives young adults an early pathway into a career in law enforcement. Once accepted into the program, cadets will be employed by Easton Police Department and can lay the groundwork for their advancement to the Police Academy once of age.
The Cadet program is open to applicants 18-20 years old. Cadets will work part-time for the Easton Police Department receiving a pay of $19 per hour and a minimum of 24 hours of work per week. Cadets are also entitled to significant benefits, including a 100% Education Reimbursement Program for those looking to also continue education beyond high school.
“The program is a great opportunity for someone to get started with their law enforcement career,” said Lieutenant Milton Orellana, Cadet Program Commander. “We see a lot of interest in young adults straight out of high school, but they’re not able to get started until they are close to 21. This program is going to help them pin down their career, and get started at their own pace.”
EPD CADET PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
- Must be older than 18 but younger than 21 when hired.
- Must be a high school graduate or possess a high school equivalency certificate.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must possess a valid Maryland Driver’s license.
- Cadets must be enrolled in at least one college-level course, maintain at least a “C” average (70%) and continue to be enrolled in classes for the duration of employment as a cadet during the fall and spring semesters, unless an associate’s degree is achieved before or during the cadet’s employment.
- Must participate in and pass the police recruit applicant written test, physical fitness test, oral board, interview, and background check.
- Once accepted into the program, cadets must continue to pass the physical fitness test quarterly, until advancement to the Police Academy. PT Requirements for Easton Police Department can be viewed here.
