Spring Break: Too Long or Just Right?
With the Easter weekend and most children having been off from last weekend through Monday, 4/18, we’re curious to gauge the public opinion on the length of time public schools are closed for spring break. I can recall having Good Friday and Easter Monday off thirty some years ago for a long holiday weekend—not the full week-plus that families are accustomed to today (I hope my memory is correct). Couple this with a shorter-than-usual summer break that public schoolchildren will have in 2022 (last day of school 6/24 and the return on 8/29 before Labor Day), and the following questions seem fair game:
Do you think Spring Break is too long or just right? Are there too many days off during the school year? Are you satisfied with the length of summer break or not?
Here’s what you said:
In my opinion, spring break is too long. The length of the break, in addition to all of the other holidays, early dismissals, snow days, etc., it seems students are out of school more time than they are in.

Have you ever wondered why kids across the pond are so smart and certainly smarter on average than U.S. school-age children? It is because they go to school practically year-around and children actually love it! For example, in Japan, school children cannot get enough of their classroom learning experiences but here in the U.S. kids want more days off. Where are our priorities? Tell THAT to local school boards!

Growing up we had good Friday and Monday off (as long as winter wasn't brutal and they turned into snow makeup days). The district we just moved from in PA, followed the same time-off schedule. A week is a lot, it is challenging to figure out childcare, I would rather my kid got out earlier in the summer than have a week in the middle of the year.
