The Cost of Christmas
This week’s column is inspired by early-morning anxiety. With just one week and change until Christmas morning, I awoke worried that my wife and I haven’t finished the holiday shopping (we’re close) and that we might not have enough gifts for our own children (we do). After surveying the prospective lists that each child wrote for Santa (us), I felt better than when I awoke awash in panic.
But it got me thinking. With all the talk these days of inflation this, cost of living that, and prices of consumer goods skyrocketing, are we curbing our spending this holiday season? I also believe there’s hypocrisy among those of us who curse the high prices of gas and groceries, but then have little problem shelling out big bucks for a dynamite Christmas. Just an observation.
(And please forgive my naivete of how the challenged economy does harm the less fortunate and underserved populations of our community.)
So, I’m asking you, dear reader, if your holiday spending habits have changed this year from last?
