Visits Cambridge and Salisbury On Final Day of Eastern Shore Tour
ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today completed the fifth and final day of his tour of Maryland’s Eastern Shore with a number of additional stops across the region.
Bill Burton Fishing Pier. At the Bill Burton Fishing Pier, Governor Hogan was joined by Maryland Secretary of Natural Resources Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio, Captain Rob Newberry, president of the Delmarva Fisheries Association, and local watermen to highlight initiatives to help the state’s seafood industry.
With the latest stock assessment showing that market size oyster populations are improving, the Department of Natural Resources is issuing a public notice allowing oystermen to begin Wednesday harvesting again. Governor Hogan included $1 million in supplemental funding for county oyster committees, which will be available July 1.
In addition, the state is developing plans for Maryland’s first shrimp fishery, with a goal of adopting regulations in the fall, when the first season would begin.
Harriet Tubman Mural. The governor stopped by the Harriet Tubman Mural located at the Harriet Tubman Museum and Educational Center in Cambridge.

Downtown Salisbury. Governor Hogan toured a number of businesses and local revitalization projects in downtown Salisbury.
Salisbury University. The governor visited Salisbury University, where he met incoming students and their families.
Breakfast with Mayor Day. Governor Hogan presented a citation to Salisbury Mayor Jake Day in recognition of his military service. Mayor Day, a Maryland Army National Guard information operations officer, was deployed in June 2020 to Djibouti as part of Combined Joint Task Force, and returned to his role as mayor in April 2021.
