We have all been through so much this year and even though we want to stay safe, we still want to celebrate Halloween this weekend. Many neighborhoods are approaching the trick-or-treating season in different, safe ways. Here are a few additional ways you can make the most out of Halloween in this crazy year.
Masks
This may be a given, but this is the best year to dress up as anyone who wears a mask; this year plan to see a lot of Dark Vaders, Spidermans, and plenty of those scary white ghost masks. There are still a few days before Halloween, Amazon Prime a black mask and paint it into whatever character or whatever facial expression you want! Masks will keep you safe and staying in character this Halloween.
Candy Shoot
Some houses are getting really creative and decorating PVC pipes to make a shoot for the candy. The shoot will be set up down the railing of their front porch steps and will deliver candy straight to the trick or treaters. With this approach, there is still a connection and it can be really fun for the kids to ‘catch’ the candy. This way, people handing out candy can still have an interaction with the kids and see their costumes like they could last year.
Skewer the Yard
Other houses are setting up a graveyard in their yard. Using thin dowel rods or skewers, tape the candy to one end and press them into the ground all around your yard. The kids will simply be able to pick them from the yard, if they can face the haunted graveyard.
Set out a Table
Another easy way to go about trick-or-treating this year is to set out a table at the end of your driveway. In years past, you could put all the candy in a cool, festive bowl, but this year we are going to spread the candy in one layer over the table. This way kids can pick up a piece of candy without everyone digging around in a single bowl. If you want, you can quarantine the candy ahead of time. Put a few pieces in spooky goody bags today and put the goody bags on the table Saturday night.
At Home Scavenger Hunt
It is perfectly okay to still not be comfortable going out quite yet, but that shouldn’t mean you have to skip Halloween all together. Dress up and set up a scavenger hunt around the house to find candy. Write up haunted clues play spooky music in the background. Make-up whatever rules you want!
