Annapolis, MD - Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently posted on their Facebook page that they are searching for information on the following incident:
"At approximately 7:30 AM on Monday, April 17th, employees at the Albert Powell Fish Hatchery discovered that someone closed one of the discharge valves in one of the raceways at the hatchery. Each raceway is housed with a regenerative blower capable of supplying adequate dissolved oxygen (D.O.) levels during high density loads. The fact that the valve was closed, 25,000 trout died due to lack of oxygen. The incident occurred some time between 11:30 AM Sunday (when the runways were last checked) and 7:30 AM on Monday. The trout fingerlings were the 2024 trout season fish to be stocked and were hatched in October of 2022. The estimated value of the fish loss is $75,000.
If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact OFC. Jeremy Miller at 410-260-8888."
