The Joy of Reading event is a unique, two-part function in Easton that includes a “Meet the Speakers Reception” at Scossa Restaurant, followed by a lecture presentation at the Avalon Theatre. This year’s event features Dr. Mark Lachs; Lachs is a physician, scientist, and the co-chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gentrology, as well as a tenured clinical professor at Weill Cornell Medical College in the Big Apple where, and he wrote a book on the topic titled Treat Me, Not My Age. In his book, Lachs explores everything from how to identify the right primary care doctor, to why the hospital is no place for sick people, and what to think about when planning financially for your future health. And as part of this year’s Joy of Reading event, he’ll be in Easton to discuss his findings.r
Ticketing comes with two options. The first, for $135, covers both the reception and the lecture, and includes a signed book, all the fun of the reception (which we'll get into below), and reserved seating at the Avalon; the second, $35, includes general admission to the presentation only. (You can purchase tickets for the latter through WonderDeals, which is currently offering general admission tickets to the lecture for half off, or $17.50. Check it out to see what our WonderDeal-ians had to say about the event.) General admission ticketholders will have the opportunity to purchase Lach’s book for $10 prior to the lecture in the Avalon lobby.

As we typically do for our "Inside the Event" posts, we uncovered the answers to a few pressing questions we had about what to expect. Here's what we learned.
r
Dress code.
It depends on which event(s) you're attending. The reception is cocktail attire—but choose wisely as reception attendees will likely walk straight from the reception over to the Avalon. If you're attending the lecture only, business casual is most appropriate, but anything goes.
r
Libations.
Reception tickets include an open bar, but the Avalon event is dry.
r
Should reception attendees plan to eat before they go?
We don't recommend you skip lunch, but there's no need to snack in advance. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be served.
r
What about a coat check?
There will be a place to hang your coat at the reception, but not at the Avalon, so dress accordingly.
r
Parking?
There is street parking at both locations (Scossa and the Avalon), as well as a parking lot behind the Avalon. The two venues are within walking distance of one another.
r
Timing?
The reception begins at 6 p.m., and the lecture is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. The lecture will likely last about an hour, after which, there will be time for Q & A and book signing.
