As a huge fan of American history, 14-year-old Jacob from Crownsville, MD, thought he knew everything about Pearl Harbor. Jacob battles cystic fibrosis and when he found out Make-A-Wish® Mid-Atlantic was granting his one true wish, Jacob was excited and wished to go to Hawaii! He couldn’t wait to visit his favorite historic landmark and learn more because not a lot of kids get to visit Pearl Harbor. Jacob imagined his trip filled with history, swimming in the ocean and hanging out on the beach.
Jacob flew to Hawaii, where his favorite part of the trip was touring the ships in Pearl Harbor. There was a short movie and tour of the USS Arizona Memorial, a tour of the USS Oklahoma Memorial and a special tour of the USS Missouri. Jacob was even able to get an exclusive tour of the Captain’s Quarters on the USS Missouri, an exciting surprise arranged just for him. His parents said he had “an amazing time from the moment the limo showed up at the house.”
Jacob’s trip also included time to snorkel and see giant turtles up close! The experiences he had in Hawaii were unexpected and allowed him to feel stronger than ever. As he continues his medical journey, Jacob will always be able to look back on his wish and the renewed strength it brought him when he needed it most.
Local wishes require local donors and local support. For every wish like Jacob’s that is granted, at least one other eligible child is still waiting. You can help make wishes come true for local children battling critical illnesses. Donate online at midatlantic.wish.org
