HANOVER, Md., Aug. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Cordish Companies' Maryland Live! Casino and Anne Arundel County today awarded more than $18.6 million in local impact grants for fiscal year 2017 to various grant recipients as recommended by the Local Development Council (LDC), which helps to manage the allocation of county gaming tax revenue to local organizations.

Severn Community Health Center was awarded an additional $1.7 million from fiscal year 2014, which was previously allocated to the now defunct People's Community Health Center project.

$40,000 for new building construction to support individuals with disabilities
Meade High Music Program
$40,000 for new marching band uniforms and instruments
Villages of Dorchester
$39,995 to replace missing, dead and dying trees
I5 Church
$39,942 for a mobile services trailer to service low income/homeless with food, shower and clothes
Boys and Girls Club
$39,628 for after school programs for Meade Village students aged 6-18
Jessup Improvement Association
$38,500 to replace aging floor in Jessup Community Hall
Van Bokkelen PTA
$34,428 for improved parent/community communications through upgraded marquee
Provinces Civic Association
$33,679 for landscaping and sign installation
Hands of Hope
$29,946 for parenting skills, artwork, drug and alcohol abuse education
Food Bank
$22,310 to support 5,000 families within 3-mile radius with food pantry
Assistance League
$16,000 to provide uniforms and books in Title 1 schools, guest readers, and tutors
Partners in Care
$10,000 to provide transportation services for senior citizens within the 3-mile radius

$4,700 for artist in residence and engineering of a puppet show
Local officials in attendance that took part in the grant presentations, as well as accepted grants on behalf of their various organizations, included Anne Arundel County Fire Chief Allan Graves; Anne Arundel County Deputy Police Chief Jerard Flemings; Kevin Rutledge, Athletic Director, Meade High School; Faye Royale, Executive Director, Severn Community Health Center; Mike Gavin, Interim VP of Anne Arundel Community College; and representatives from many of the organizations that received community support grants.

LDC impact
The Local Development Council was established in Anne Arundel County after the opening of Maryland Live! Casino on June 6, 2012. Appointed by the County Executive, the Local Development Council consists of 15 members to serve and advise the County on recommendations for the distribution and expenditure of revenues raised at Maryland Live! Casino through local impact grants.
Since its formation in 2012, the LDC has awarded more than $85 million in grants towards county operational and capital programs, and community grants.
Community based organizations and nonprofit groups located generally within a three mile radius of Maryland Live! Casino are eligible to apply for a local impact grant.
