Dr. McGrath’s training includes having earned both her undergraduate and dental degrees from the University of Connecticut and her Masters degree in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She obtained her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry from Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, in conjunction with Yale University School of Medicine. She is a Board Certified Pediatric Dentist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. In addition, Dr. McGrath and her staff take American Academy Pediatric Dental courses every year to continue learning about the latest advancements in dental and pediatric dental care. She also has worked and volunteered for organizations that promote access to dental care.
rKent Island Pediatric Dentistry is solely the practice of Dr. McGrath and opened in April of 2010. It includes comprehensive services such as preventative dentistry, restorative dentistry, sedation dentistry, orthodontic evaluation, and behavior management. The atmosphere at Kent Island Pediatric Dentistry is warm and cozy, as the office has been decorated to resemble a cheerful cottage. The practice is also paperless, provides digital imaging, and has televisions for patient entertainment and education. The goal of the practice is to protect and prolong the teeth of growing and active kids by making a visit to the dentist both fun and enjoyable.
rDr. McGrath encourages parents to bring their child for their first dental visit six months after the eruption of their first tooth or by the age of one. She is passionate about teaching patients and parents effective oral health and dietary guidelines that help to prevent cavities. The biggest misconception Dr. McGrath has come across in her career is the assumption that baby teeth are going to fall out and that cavities do not need to be treated. When actually many primary molars do not fall out until the ages of 10-12 years old and the cavity can become quite problematic if left untreated. Everyday, Dr. McGrath strives to make her practice a fun and informative environment. When she’s not treating patients, Dr. McGrath is involved with lab rescue, enjoys playing tennis, and spending time with her husband and two dogs.
