Maryland 2025 - In case you haven’t heard, Maryland Zoo's herd just got a little bigger (and taller)—they recently welcomed a new giraffe calf to the Zoo!
Born in the early morning hours of March 27 to Kipi, the 4-year-old reticulated giraffe, this adorable calf arrived as a complete surprise. Kipi, who only arrived at the Zoo in November, wasn’t known to be pregnant, so the birth of her baby has brought us nothing but joy! The female calf is thriving, nursing well, and Kipi is proving to be a wonderful first-time mom.
At 128 pounds and about six feet tall, the calf is growing strong every day, and we’re keeping a close eye on her health and development. But here’s the fun part—Maryland Zoo needs YOUR help in choosing a name for her!
By making a donation to support her care, you’ll have the opportunity to enter for a chance to give her the perfect name. Not only will your donation help provide essential care for both mom and calf, but it’ll also allow you to be part of this exciting new chapter in our herd’s history!
